Austin Criminal Defense Lawyer: Jamie Spencer

Your Best Defense is Your Attorney

Welcome to AustinDefense.com

This site is entirely written by me, Jamie Spencer, a practicing criminal defense lawyer in Austin, Texas.  Unlike most “static” lawyer websites, which are pre-packaged by marketing companies, I have written everything on this site word for word.  I also publish two blogs, which I regularly update, and which provide information and help for those arrested and charged with various criminal offenses in Texas.

The first blog focuses on general Criminal Defense issues in Texas.  The second blog focuses specifically on DWI arrests, procedures, and defenses.  Please feel free to visit those sites for more specific information.

The links on the side are here to provide you with specific information about various types of arrestable offenses, and specific defenses.  I have provided separate individual pages for the types of cases I handle most often.

If you have been arrested in Austin and charged with a criminal offense, please feel free to call me at (512) 472 9909, or to email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Like most criminal defense lawyers, I offer free consultations.  The initial meeting is confidential, of course, and usually lasts between 30 minutes to an hour.

Unless you live out of town, it is my preference that we be able to meet face to face, rather than discuss your case over the phone.  This gives us both a chance to meet each other, and in my experience provides a better atmosphere for us to talk about the details of your case.

After you explain to me the facts in your particular case, I will talk to you about the range of possible and likely outcomes.  I will also suggest the steps that you can start to take to help us get the best possible resolution.

We will also discuss attorney’s fees, and payment plans.  If and when you decide to hire me, you will not need to make an immediate down payment.  I understand that no one saves up to hire a criminal defense lawyer, so you are probably in the same boat as most of my clients.  Some form of payment will be due before the first court appearance, which is usually 3 to 4 weeks after the initial arrest.

Most of the time, I will be able to make your first court appearance for you.  Often, I can handle the first few court settings without you needing to appear.  In the meantime, I am filing motions in your case, requesting the police report, and scheduling meetings with the prosecutor where I can present both our substantive and equitable defenses.

In misdemeanor cases, I have usually completed discovery and had at least one chance to present our side of the story to the prosecutor, before you need to come to court.  In more serious felony cases, the judge usually requires your appearance at every setting after the first court date.

Lastly, I urge you to use this site to find out more information about your type of case.  And again, if you wish to set up a time to meet with me, feel free to call (512) 472 9909, or email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
